The Martial Eagle is one of the most impressive birds of prey in the world. With a wingspan of up to 2.5 meters, they are easily identified by their characteristic white head and black body plumage.
Martial Eagles are found predominantly in Africa, although there are a few isolated populations in India and Sri Lanka. They live in open woodlands and savannahs, where they hunt for prey such as rabbits, hares, hyraxes, kudus, impalas and other small antelopes.
Despite its size, the Martial Eagle is an agile hunter which can take down prey that is much larger than itself. It has a powerful grip which it uses to squeeze the life out of its victim. Once it has caught its prey, the Martial Eagle typically eats it on the spot, rather than carrying it off to a safe location.
