A Puff Adder is a snake found in Africa and the Middle East. They are known for their large, wide body and their venomous bite.
These snakes can grow up to 2 meters long and have a dark brown or black colour with beige coloured diamond shaped patterned scales that create diamonds that run down its back. The underside of this snakes body is mostly white or yellow coloured. This bright colouring helps it to blend in with dry grass on the deserts and savannahs where it lives.
The Puff Adder usually doesn't mind humans, but will get aggressive when threatened, attacked or bothered by them. This snake is an expert at hiding itself and sitting still until its prey, usually rodents and other small animals, comes near it. Then the puff adder will quickly grab its meal with its jaw and inject the venom into the prey's flesh for disabling it before starting to eat.
The Puff Adder eats mostly small mammals such as moles, gerbils, field mice and shrews. When this snake is not hunting or eating it can be found burrowed under ground in a warm place where they like to hide during the day and come out at night when their prey species are most active.
