It covers an area of about 62 500km2, which is large, but only t akes up 0,17% of Norway's total land .This region offers great opportunities for birdwatching, wildlife viewing, skiing and snowboarding on glaciers, hiking on mountains with coastal views to explore.
Even though the Svalbard Islands are quite far north, they have pretty mild temperatures. In the summer, the islands experience midnight sun , and in winter it is definitely cold enough to snow . The best time of year to visit is between April and September.
