Discover Tours

The South Polar Skua is a stunning bird that is found in the Antarctic. It is the only species of skua to be found in this region and it is known for its distinctive white head and black wings. These birds can be quite large, measuring up to 45 inches in length, and they have a powerful hooked bill that is perfect for tearing into prey.

South Polar Skuas are expert predators, and their diet consists mostly of other birds. They will hunt for seabirds on the shoreline, or follow boats and ships in search of scraps or injured animals. They are also known to scavenge carcasses from the ocean floor, and will even eat penguins and seals if they get the chance!

Despite their predatory nature, South Polar Skuas are also known for being quite gentle and friendly.
